Elena Rybakina a révélé que le problème qui l’a contrainte à abandonner face à Iga Swiatek la gênait depuis déjà un certain temps, au point de rendre la marche douloureuse après ses matches. La Kazakhe doit passer une IRM afin de déterminer précisément la nature de sa blessure.
Le quart de finale de la numéro 2 mondiale à Cincinnati s’est brusquement arrêté après une mauvaise réception lors d’une tentative de revers dans le premier set.

Rybakina a reçu des soins à la cheville gauche et a tenté de poursuivre la rencontre. Mais après n’avoir pas réussi à prendre correctement appui sur un service, elle a finalement abandonné.

Âgée de 27 ans, la joueuse a expliqué que le problème s’était accentué ces derniers jours en raison d’un enchaînement de matches soutenu. Un mauvais mouvement face à Swiatek n’a fait qu’aggraver la situation.
"Of course now I feel not the greatest, I couldn’t even push from the serve. It’s painful to walk, and we will know more tomorrow when I do the MRI," a expliqué Rybakina après son abandon en quarts de finale à Cincinnati.
"It’s been bothering me for a long period of time. It was under control, but then after playing a lot of matches in Canada and coming here playing two matches in a row. The match against (Magdalena) Frech stopping with the rain delays, I started to feel it more, and I took a day off completely after. It was feeling okay before the match but unfortunately one wrong movement, one landing, and something happened.”

Elena Rybakina a déjà disputé dix matches lors de sa tournée nord-américaine sur dur : six à Toronto, où elle a terminé finaliste face à Swiatek, puis quatre autres à Cincinnati.
Se blesser à un peu plus d’une semaine de l’US Open est forcément préoccupant, d’autant que le problème la gênait déjà avant son match contre Swiatek.
Rybakina devrait toutefois être rapidement fixée sur sa participation au tournoi new-yorkais, puisqu’elle doit passer une IRM.
