Zheng Qinwen a salué avec élégance l’ascension impressionnante de Kristina Liutova, avant de révéler qu’elle avait été malade quelques jours avant leur duel à l’US Open. La Chinoise a également confié avoir connu des difficultés physiques et mentales lors de son entrée en lice.
Sortie du top 100 et privée de wild-card, Zheng a dû passer par les qualifications à Flushing Meadows pour la première fois de sa carrière.
L’ancienne 4e joueuse mondiale a toutefois parfaitement négocié cette étape, remportant trois matches pour décrocher sa place dans le tableau principal.
Au premier tour, Zheng a ensuite dû renverser la situation pour battre Kristina Liutova, 16 ans, sur le score de 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Zheng rend hommage à Liutova après leur duel à l’US Open
Liutova a marqué l’histoire cet été : elle est devenue la première joueuse née dans les années 2010 à remporter un tournoi WTA, après son sacre à Memphis. Elle est ensuite devenue la première joueuse de cette génération à disputer le tableau principal d’un tournoi du Grand Chelem.
Après leur match, Zheng a tenu à saluer la performance de la jeune Russe.
“First of all I want to say congratulations to the opponent. She’s only 16 years old. Very, very young junior. She played incredible tennis. She fights a lot. It was not easy for me. But first, congratulations to her," a déclaré la finaliste de l’Open d’Australie 2024 lors de son interview sur le court.
Zheng révèle que son corps ne répondait pas correctement
La Chinoise de 23 ans a ensuite expliqué qu’elle avait été malade quelques jours avant la rencontre et que son corps ne répondait pas toujours correctement.
Il s’agissait également de sa première apparition dans le tableau principal d’un tournoi du Grand Chelem depuis son opération du coude, en juillet 2025.
“Second, my body wasn’t in the best shape because I was a bit sick a few days ago. It was tough for me to keep the consistency. One moment I was feeling a bit dizzy on court," a confié l’ancienne 4e mondiale.
"But I just said, today, what I can do is only to fight and let’s see what happens. I’m so happy to get this match. It was really tough for me physically and mentally. It was my first Grand Slam main draw win in more than a year. That means a lot to me."

Au deuxième tour de l’US Open, Zheng affrontera la gagnante du match entre Belinda Bencic et Yulia Putintseva.
